Hard to post just a few pictures from this amazing trail. I love them all. Most of these are at 10,000 to 12,000 feet. Just beautiful!

More Pictures from the John Muir Trail

More amazing views from the John Muir Trail. I never get tired of this!!

Just below Donahue Pass

Camping below Donahue Pass on the John Muir Trail. We are at about 10,000 feet. Beautiful! The next day we hiked over the pass and into another great section of the Sierras.

John Muir Trail

Mark and I just returned from 17 days of backpacking the John Muir Trail in California. We had a great time. It was a wonderful experience....and I got to do it with my best friend. This picture is from one of the first days of our hike on the trail. Every day provided us with a view like this. Simply gorgeous!

Mt. Willard

Finally some snow to snowshoe in. We went up Mt. Willard...short hike, but nice along the way. No views due to the clouds, but that is okay. Still a great day, with great pictures along the way.

Mt. Willey hike

Today we hiked up Mt. Willey via the Ethan Pond trail and Willey trail. Great hike. Needed some traction on the steep parts, but otherwise it was pretty easy, except for the steepness. Yukon did great as well, but we were all tired given the 10.2 mile hike yesterday up Mt. Hight. Yesterday was not as clear as today so no great photos. Today I got some great pictures on top of Willey of Mt. Washington, which I have posted here. Hope you enjoy them.

Climbing Mt. Tom and Mt. Field

Yesterday we climbed Mt. Tom and Mt. Field. Cloudy day, but warm. A pretty easy hike up to both summits. Many people out and about. Although there is snow, the trail was well packed, and we were able to make it up without snow shoes or crampons, just our Yaxtrax. We came down the Avalon trail. Pretty steep and slippery given the snow. Yukon did just fine. Mark and I slide down part of the way to make it easier, and fun. All in all a very fun day.

Happy New Year 2012

Happy New Year! Today we hiked up Mt. Piece....about 4300 feet. Beautiful day, very warm, about 40 degrees. No snow, but a little ice. We used our microspikes. No need for crampons, although we brought them, and not need for snow shoes....no snow. Although it was very warm, on top there were some great pictures of a winter wonderland. We ascended via the Crawford Path, and descended via Mitzpah hut back to Crawford path. A total of about 6.2 miles. A great hike. Here are some pictures from the day. Near the hut Mark fed two gray jay birds. They ate right out of his hand. All in all it was a great way to ring inthe new year!
